Down the harbour road

Two questions dominate, and they come from different people

Vaucluse, NSW splits neatly. Parents ask when a child should first be looked at. Adults ask whether treatment can be done without it being conspicuous. The two rarely overlap and both have straightforward answers.

For children, seven is the age that matters — not because treatment starts then, but because enough adult teeth are through to show how the jaws are growing. Most first appointments end with a date to come back. Starting too early can lengthen the total time in treatment, so waiting is frequently the right clinical call rather than a delay.

For adults, ceramic braces are the most searched treatment from this postcode. Tooth coloured brackets, fixed in place, doing exactly what steel does while being much harder to notice. Aligners are the other route, though they only work while they are actually in. Vaucluse sits in the Waverley Council area, twelve minutes along the harbour road. What we treat

Ceramic braces, aligners and children’s orthodontics

For a child the first appointment is a look, not a plan. For an adult it is a choice between two discreet routes. Both begin the same way.

Clear aligners

Removable trays covering most crowding and spacing. The alternative when nothing fixed is wanted. Clear aligners →

Ceramic braces

Tooth coloured brackets, fixed. The most searched treatment from Vaucluse, and it earns the interest. Ceramic braces →

Traditional braces

Steel brackets. The most versatile appliance and often the shortest route for real bite correction. Traditional braces →

Early treatment for children

A first look around seven. One of the two things this suburb asks about most. Children’s orthodontics →

Adult orthodontics

Routine work — usually crowding, or a school result that gave ground once the retainer stopped. Adult orthodontics →

Retainers

What holds the outcome. The main reason results either last or slowly come undone. Retainers →

Your first visit

What happens when you come in

Allow around an hour for the first visit. You are welcome to bring a partner or parent, and there is no obligation to start treatment on the day.

01

We talk it through

We ask what you have noticed. For a child, your observations matter as much as the dentist’s note.

02

We examine and take records

An examination, then scans or x-rays where needed. Recent x-rays from your dentist can be used.

03

We explain the options

What is realistic now and what would genuinely be better postponed. Waiting is a legitimate recommendation.

04

You take it away

You take it home. Nothing is booked on the day.

Both practices

Two practices, both easy to reach

Questions from Vaucluse

Questions we are asked most often

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly. Bring recent x-rays if your dentist has referred you.

Twelve minutes by car along New South Head Road through Rose Bay. Buses run along Old South Head Road towards Edgecliff. We are at 135 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra 2025.

Around age seven. Enough adult teeth are usually through to show how the jaws and remaining teeth are developing. It does not mean treatment begins then — most children are reviewed periodically until the right moment.

Usually not. Most first assessments end with a review date. Starting too early can lengthen the overall course, so we begin at the point where the work is shortest and most effective.

Yes. They move teeth identically; the bracket is tooth coloured rather than steel. Metal is slightly tougher and remains preferable for some complex corrections.

Three further years of full time specialist training in moving teeth and correcting bites.

A few months to about two years, depending on what is being corrected.

We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known.

One appointment tells you what can be done, whether now is the right time for a child, and how long treatment would run.
