Along the harbour road
One of the suburbs we hear from most
Rose Bay, NSW is a steady source of two quite different appointments. Adults asking about clear aligners, and parents bringing a seven year old in because a dentist mentioned crowding at a check up.
The aligner conversation has changed in the last few years. They now handle considerably more crowding and spacing than they used to, which has brought in people who would never have considered fixed braces. What has not changed is where they stop being the right tool: when the bite itself has to move, fixed braces still do things trays cannot, and ceramic brackets keep that discreet.
The children’s side is quieter and more often misunderstood. An early look almost never means early treatment. It means knowing whether to act at nine or wait until twelve. Rose Bay sits in the Waverley Council area and it is an eight minute run along the harbour road to us, which makes those periodic reviews trivial to keep. What we treat
Clear aligners, ceramic braces and children’s orthodontics
For adults the choice is nearly always aligners against ceramic braces. For children it is not a choice at all yet — it is a question of when. Both start with the same appointment.
Clear aligners
Removable trays swapped weekly or fortnightly. The most requested treatment from this suburb by a distance. Clear aligners →
Ceramic braces
Fixed, tooth coloured brackets, for cases needing more control than trays can give while staying reasonably discreet. Ceramic braces →
Traditional braces
Steel brackets. Frequently the fastest route when the bite has to change, and the most robust day to day. Traditional braces →
Early treatment for children
A first look around seven. Enough adult teeth are usually through to show how the jaws are growing without waiting for the full set. Children’s orthodontics →
Adult orthodontics
Routine work, and most Rose Bay patients are surprised how much can be done quietly at forty or fifty. Adult orthodontics →
Retainers
What holds the result once the appliance comes off. Wearing one as instructed is most of whether it lasts. Retainers →

Your first visit
What happens when you come in
Allow around an hour for the first visit. You are welcome to bring a partner or parent, and there is no obligation to start treatment on the day.
01
We talk it through
We ask what you have noticed. If this is about a child, we want your observations as much as the dentist’s note.
02
We examine and take records
An examination, with scans or x-rays only where needed. Recent x-rays from your dentist can be used.
03
We explain the options
What is realistic now, what would be better postponed, and where aligners would fall short if they would.
04
You take it away
You leave with the information. Nothing is booked on the day.
Two practices, both easy to reach
Questions we are asked most often
Do I need a referral?
No. Book an assessment directly. Bring recent x-rays if your dentist has referred you.
How far is the practice from Rose Bay?
Eight minutes by car along New South Head Road through Double Bay, or a short bus ride towards Edgecliff. We are at 135 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra 2025.
Will clear aligners work for my case?
Probably, if the issue is crowding or spacing — that covers most of what we are asked from Rose Bay. They are weaker where the bite has to change, and useless if not worn most of the day. An examination settles it.
When should a child first be seen?
Around age seven. Enough adult teeth are through by then to show how the jaws are developing. In most cases we simply review a child periodically until the right moment, which often shortens the eventual treatment.
Does an early appointment mean early braces?
Usually not. Most first assessments end with a review date. Starting too early can lengthen the total time in treatment, so the aim is to begin at the point where the work is shortest and most effective.
What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
Three further years of full time specialist training in moving teeth and correcting bites. Your dentist keeps looking after everything else.
How long does treatment run?
A few months to about two years, depending on what is being corrected. You will get a real range at the assessment.
What will it cost?
We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known. Any figure before an examination is guesswork.
