Adult treatment, and usually a choice between two things

Most of what comes to us from Clovelly, NSW is adult work, and it lands in a narrow band. Lower front teeth that have crowded over ten or fifteen years, or an upper arch straightened at school that has since given ground.

Neither takes as long to fix as people assume, and the decision usually reduces to aligners against ceramic braces. Trays are removable, close to invisible and cover most crowding and spacing. Ceramic is fixed, which means nothing rests on your discipline, and it handles bite work that trays cannot. Sometimes both would work. When that is true we say so instead of pretending there is only one answer.

Clovelly sits in the City of Randwick area, a ten minute run up Carrington Road. Reviews are short and weeks apart, so the drive is a smaller part of this than it looks on a map. Our broader approach is on the orthodontist in Sydney page.

If you want the complete picture, our areas we service page lists everywhere we treat from.

What we treat

Clear aligners, ceramic braces and adult orthodontics

Two options cover most Clovelly enquiries. What separates them is not appearance — both are discreet — but whether the treatment depends on you remembering to wear it.

Clear aligners

Removable trays covering a wide range of crowding and spacing. Out for meals, in for everything else. Clear aligners →

Ceramic braces

Fixed, tooth coloured brackets. Nothing depends on compliance, which is the real advantage over trays for some people. Ceramic braces →

Traditional braces

Steel brackets. The most versatile appliance and often the shortest route when the bite needs correcting. Traditional braces →

Early treatment for children

A first look around seven. Most end in a review date rather than a plan to start. Early treatment for children →

Adult orthodontics

The bulk of our Clovelly work, and usually crowding that arrived slowly enough to go unnoticed. Adult orthodontics →

Retainers

The part most often skipped and most often regretted. It is what holds everything in place. Retainers →

Your first visit

What happens when you come in

Allow around an hour for the first visit. You are welcome to bring a partner or parent, and there is no obligation to start treatment on the day.

01

We talk it through

We ask what you want changed. Most people arrive with one specific thing, which keeps this short.

02

We examine and take records

An examination, then scans or x-rays where needed. Bring recent x-rays from your dentist and we will use those.

03

We explain the options

What each option can realistically achieve and how long it runs. If both would work, we will tell you that too.

04

You take it away

You take it home. Nothing is booked on the day — given the drive, we would rather you decided there.

Questions from Clovelly

Questions we are asked most often

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly. Bring recent x-rays if your dentist has referred you.

Ten minutes by car up Carrington Road through Bondi Junction, or a bus to the interchange. We are at 135 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra 2025.

Both are discreet but they are not interchangeable. Aligners come out for meals and suit crowding and spacing. Ceramic braces are fixed, so nothing depends on you wearing them, and they manage corrections aligners cannot. The case decides.

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons adults come in. Teeth keep moving, particularly once a retainer stops being worn. Relapse work is often shorter than the original treatment.

An orthodontist has completed three further years of full time specialist training in moving teeth and correcting bites. Your dentist continues with general care.

A few months to about two years. Crowded front teeth resolve quickly; bite correction does not.

Short reviews, several weeks apart. We will tell you at the outset roughly how many visits your treatment involves.

We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known. Any figure before an examination is a guess.

Come in for an assessment

One appointment tells you whether aligners or ceramic braces suit, and how long it would take. Ten minutes away, no obligation.

We write separately about Coogee, Bronte and Randwick if one of those is closer to you.
