On Military Road
Teeth straightening without crossing the bridge
Mosman, NSW keeps its own hours. The Military Road crawl, the run down to Balmoral, the ferry timetable, and somewhere in there an orthodontic appointment that has to not become an afternoon. That constraint shapes how we plan treatment here: fewer, shorter visits, and a schedule you can see from the start.
The enquiries fall into three piles. Adults who want to know what teeth straightening actually involves at their age. Parents wondering whether a child is ready. And people who finished braces years ago and have watched everything creep back since the retainer went in a drawer.
We are on Military Road inside the Mosman Council area, not across the bridge. Across two years of appointments that is the difference between a short errand and an afternoon. More on how we work as an orthodontist in Sydney. A full list of the suburbs we see patients from is on the areas we service page.

What we treat
Braces, clear aligners and retainers for Mosman
Locally the searches split between teeth straightening in general, self-ligating braces, and retainers — often from people whose teeth have shifted since a first round of treatment. All three are routine work. What suits you comes down to how far the teeth have to move and whether the bite has to change with them.
Clear aligners
Removable trays swapped weekly. Nothing shows in a meeting and they come out for lunch, which is most of the reason people ask. Clear aligners →
Ceramic braces
Tooth coloured brackets, fixed. Same mechanics as metal, much harder to notice from across a desk. Ceramic braces →
Traditional braces
Steel brackets. Still the most capable appliance when the bite has to change, and frequently the shortest route. Braces in Mosman →
Early treatment for children
Braces for kids is one of the most common searches from this postcode. The honest answer nearly always starts with a look rather than a plan. Early treatment for children →
Adult orthodontics
Most adult cases here start the same way — a lower front tooth turning, noticed in a photograph rather than a mirror. Adult orthodontics →
Retainers
Removable retainers get asked about a lot locally, usually by people whose teeth have already moved once. They are what holds any result. Retainers →

Your first visit
What happens when you come in
Allow around an hour for the first visit. You are welcome to bring a partner or parent, and there is no obligation to start treatment on the day.
01
We talk it through
We ask what you have noticed and what you want changed. Bring the specifics — a photo that bothered you counts.
02
We examine and take records
An examination, then scans or x-rays only where we need to see below the gum. Recent x-rays from your dentist save you a repeat.
03
We explain the options
What is realistic, what each appliance would involve, and roughly how many visits. If self-ligating brackets would make no practical difference to you, we will say so.
04
You take it away
You leave with the information. Nothing is booked, and it is a five minute drive back if you want to think.
Two practices, both easy to reach
Questions we are asked most often
Do I need a referral to see an orthodontist?
No. Book an assessment directly. If your dentist referred you, bring the letter and recent x-rays so they do not have to be retaken.
Where exactly are you in Mosman?
Suite 2, 600 Military Road, Mosman 2088. On Military Road itself, so most of Mosman is a short drive or a walk, and buses stop close by.
What does teeth straightening actually involve?
Light, continuous pressure applied over months, using either fixed braces or a series of removable trays. The bone remodels around the moving roots, and a retainer holds the result. Nothing works in days, whatever you have read.
What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed a further three years of full time specialist training in moving teeth and correcting bites. Your dentist handles general care. We handle the movement.
Are self-ligating braces better?
Sometimes, marginally. The bracket holds the wire with a built in clip rather than an elastic tie, which can mean fewer parts to keep clean and slightly quicker adjustments. It does not change the outcome in most cases. We fit the system your treatment needs, not the one with the best name.
How long will treatment take?
A few months to about two years. Front tooth crowding is quick. Bite correction is not. You will get a real range at the assessment.
Will I need a retainer afterwards?
Yes, and it is not optional if you want the result to last. Teeth move for life. We will explain the removable and fixed options and how long each needs wearing.
What will it cost?
We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known. Any number before an examination is guesswork. You get it in writing before anything starts.
