Down the ridge
Family questions, in a fairly predictable order
Dover Heights, NSW sends us families, and the questions arrive in sequence. Does my child need looking at yet. If treatment is coming, is it better to start now or wait. And what does this actually mean week to week.
The first: around seven, when enough adult teeth are through to show how the jaws are developing. The second: waiting is frequently the right call, and we will say so rather than start early for the sake of appearing decisive. The third is the one people underestimate — after planning and fitting, reviews are short and several weeks apart, which for a twelve minute run down the ridge is entirely workable around school and sport.
The adult work here is quieter and mostly about discretion. Dover Heights sits in the Waverley Council area. Our approach more broadly is on the orthodontist in Sydney page.
If you want the complete picture, our areas we service page lists everywhere we treat from.

What we treat
Braces, early treatment and clear aligners
For children this starts as an assessment rather than a plan. For teenagers and adults it is usually a choice between fixed braces and removable trays.
Clear aligners
Removable trays covering most crowding and spacing. A common choice for older teenagers here. Clear aligners →
Ceramic braces
Fixed, tooth coloured brackets, for cases needing more control than trays give. Ceramic braces →
Traditional braces
Steel brackets, and often the right recommendation for a teenager whose bite is still developing. Braces for teenagers →
Early treatment for children
Where most Dover Heights families start. A first look around seven, usually producing a review date. Children’s orthodontics →
Adult orthodontics
Routine work — crowding that arrived slowly, or a school result that has since drifted. Adult orthodontics →
Retainers
What holds the result once braces or trays come off. Retainers →

Questions we are asked most often
Do I need a referral?
No. Book an assessment directly.
How far is the practice from Dover Heights?
Twelve minutes by car down Old South Head Road through Rose Bay. Buses run along Old South Head Road towards the Junction. We are at 135 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra 2025.
When should a child first be seen?
Around age seven, when enough adult teeth are through to show how the jaws are developing. It rarely means starting then.
Is it better to start early or wait?
Usually to wait and monitor. Starting too early can lengthen the overall course. Where guiding growth now would genuinely simplify later treatment we will explain why rather than begin for the sake of it.
How disruptive is treatment around school?
Less than most parents expect. After planning and fitting, reviews are short and several weeks apart. We will map the schedule at the first appointment so you can plan around school and sport.
What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
Three further years of full time specialist training in tooth movement and bite correction.
Can adults have treatment without it showing?
In most cases, yes — aligners are removable and close to invisible, and ceramic braces use tooth coloured brackets.
What will it cost?
We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known.
