Down the hill

Mostly children, and mostly a question of timing

Children’s orthodontics is what Bellevue Hill, NSW searches for, and with Cranbrook, Kambala and Scots within a short radius that is unsurprising. The question parents arrive with is nearly always the same: is now the moment.

Usually not, and that is a real answer rather than a delay. Seven is when a first look becomes informative, because enough adult teeth are through to show how the jaws are growing. From there the sensible course is often periodic review until the point where treatment will be shortest. Beginning too early can extend the total time in an appliance, which helps nobody.

The adult side is smaller but steady, and mostly about ceramic braces — fixed, tooth coloured, and much less conspicuous than people expect. Bellevue Hill sits in the Municipality of Woollahra area, five minutes down the hill, which makes those review appointments easy to keep around a school timetable. Our approach generally is on the orthodontist in Sydney page.

Every suburb we work across is listed on our areas we service page.

What we treat

Children’s orthodontics, ceramic braces and aligners

For a child this begins as an assessment, not a treatment plan. For adults the local preference runs strongly towards ceramic braces.

Clear aligners

Removable trays. Common with older teenagers who would rather nothing showed in a school photograph. Clear aligners →

Ceramic braces

Fixed, tooth coloured brackets. The option Bellevue Hill adults ask about most. Ceramic braces →

Traditional braces

Steel brackets. For a teenager with a developing bite, frequently the right call rather than a compromise. Traditional braces →

Early treatment for children

What this suburb asks about most. A first look around seven, usually ending in a review date. Children’s orthodontics →

Adult orthodontics

A good share start in their thirties or forties, generally after a lower front tooth turns. Adult orthodontics →

Retainers

What holds the result. Why some results last for decades and others quietly give way. Retainers →

Your first visit

What happens when you come in

Allow around an hour for the first visit. You are welcome to bring a partner or parent, and there is no obligation to start treatment on the day.

01

We talk it through

We ask what you have noticed. With the local schools nearby this often follows a dental check at school.

02

We examine and take records

An examination, then scans or x-rays where needed. Recent x-rays from your dentist can be used.

03

We explain the options

What is realistic now, and whether waiting a year would make the eventual treatment shorter.

04

You take it away

You take it home. Nothing is booked, and it is five minutes back down the hill.

Questions from Bellevue Hill

Questions we are asked most often

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly. Bring recent x-rays if you have been referred.

Five minutes by car down Bellevue Road or Victoria Road, and about twenty minutes on foot. We are at 135 Edgecliff Road, Woollahra 2025.

Around age seven. Enough adult teeth are usually through by then to show how the jaws are developing. It does not mean treatment starts at that age.

Yes, and it is worth raising when you book. Reviews are short and several weeks apart, and being five minutes away means a visit rarely costs more than a small part of the day. We are used to the local school calendars.

Often. Aligners cover most crowding and spacing. Where the bite needs real correction fixed braces still do things trays cannot, and ceramic brackets keep those discreet.

Three further years of full time specialist training in tooth movement and bite correction.

A few months to about two years, depending on what is being corrected.

We go through it at the assessment once the treatment is known.
